Provide a case study focus on two business organisations and covering the following points: – an explanation of the industry sector in which the business organisation operates and its current business identity (e.g. private limited company, public limited company, partnership etc). Include background information on how the business identity has evolved (e.g. when the business was founded, was it a small partnership which has now become a limited company?; was the business founded as a private limited company which has now become a public limited company?) (AC 1.1) – an analysis of the main internal functions within the two business organisations chosen (e.g. Human Resources; Finance and Accounts etc.). You will need to demonstrate what main internal functions are present in each company and provide in-depth detail of why these functions exist and what their main activities are (AC 2.1) -Identify the management organisational structure adopted by the two business organisations chosen; explain how this organisational structure works and evaluate to what extent this is the most suitable organisational structure for the business organisations concerned. In undertaking this part of the case study focus, you will need to evaluate the main advantages and disadvantages of the management organisational structure under scrutiny. Does the management organisational structure work well for the business organisation concerned or not? (AC 3.1.) Further guidance: Choose two business organisations which are very different from each other in terms of industry sector; business identity and management organisational structure in order to show your understanding of a range of issues for all the assessment criteria of this unit. Present your work as two separate and stand-alone case studies. You will be using many of the skills of the presentation of written reports in your written submission but without an executive summary; findings and recommendations. You will need to pay attention to paragraphing and the appropriate use of sub-headings. You will also need to pay attention to proper application of Harvard Referencing for external sources of information both in relation to in-text citation and a reference list of sources. You are able to choose business organisations with which you are familiar as an employee, a volunteer or as a member of a family with a family business. You might choose to focus on a ‘household name’ business organisation as one of your case studies and a business with which you are familiar as another. This is entirely your choice but do ensure that the two business organisations operate very differently to each other as mentioned above. .
