The general purpose of a literature review is to inform readers of the significant knowledge and ideas on a particular topic through summary, classification, and critical analysis of prior research studies. The main objective of this term paper is to summarize and critically evaluate the literature to establish current knowledge of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) studies on critical metals.
Here are some things to think about:
• Narrow your focus on a review topic (e.g., LCI data availability for critical metals mining in Canada; Lifecycle GHG emissions of Li and Co recycling from spent batteries, etc).
• Organize your ideas and develop an insightful discussion about the body of scholarship.
• Compare and contrast the various findings, arguments, theories, and methodologies in the literature.
• What do the authors agree or disagree about? What are the major areas of disagreement, controversy, or debate?
• Critique the literature; synthesize and evaluate the research, do not just describe or report it. Look for any assumptions or biases in the literature.
