AN EXAMPLE :
The organized crime groups I will be looking at are the South African groups and the triads in China. To start, Southern Africa is very experienced within their realm of organized crime and acts as a hub for organized crime development due to its relative wealth, infrastructure, and regional instability. South African criminal enterprises involve drug-related crime, motor vehicle theft/hijacking, fraud, corruption, and trafficking in natural resources such as rhino horns and valuable metals and stones. They have also provided a “haven” to other international criminal groups from the Balkans, China, Western Africa, and the Middle East. Chinese Triads in contrast to South African organized crime culture is much more disorganized and the members get to choose their own criminal activities. Organized crime in both of these locations has only been going on for no more than 50 years, but Triads picked up in the late 18th century and South Africa traces organized crime back to gangs in the late 19th century. Both countries are involved in drug trafficking, theft, and fraud, but the Triads are also involved in human trafficking as it is “more profitable than drug trafficking.”
