A recurring theme in the course has focused on the ways that the contemporary institutions and processes of global organization provide continuity between the formal colonialism of the past and the maintenance of Western hegemony in the contemporary era, in a form of neo-imperialism. Drawing on 3 of the different areas weve focused on throughout the quarter (economic governance, coordination around environmental issues, and international responses to conflict and/or humanitarian crises), identify and discuss the ways in which this power hierarchy between Western countries and post-colonial states and/or peripheral places continues to be maintained. Be specific in your selection of examples, as well as in your analysis of how the particular practices under discussion contribute to this dynamic. Second, identify how this power hierarchy is being meaningfully challenged, if at all. Again, be specific. You may take the position that the challenges you identify are not effective, but you must support your claims with evidence and logical argumentation either way. In responding to the prompt, you must employ ideas from course lectures, as well as reference a minimum of 4 of assigned authors.
