Movie Review Assignment: We Need to Talk about Kevin
Overview: Your task is to view a movie that has Criminology themes and to write an analysis of that film connecting it to issues covered this semester.
Descriiption: A movie analysis is not merely a review or summary of the plot, it should go deeper into analysis and reaction. It should discuss the issues raised by the film, address the film’s importance and purpose, state reactions to the content and quality of the film, and connect it to ideas and material covered in class. It should be a maximum of three pages and include the following (in any order you choose).
Procedure:
– Summarize the movie and describe the setting, plot, and characters
– Identify any criminological theories and concepts that play out within the film
– Summarize the theory/concept
– Describe the character and their circumstances and behavior that demonstrate the theory/concept
– Does the film contradict or support anything you have learned? (biosocial theories, rational choice theories, deterrence theories, classical theories, crime pattern theory, opportunity theory, risk factors, signs)
– Would you recommend the film to other Criminology students? Why/why not? (Yes)
Requirements:
All papers must have a title page, be typed, double spaced with a 12-point font.
All pages must have appropriately sized margins.
