Here you are invited to discuss the essay by Ralston on “Environmental Ethics” or one of the very well known “Worldview” perspectives on environmental ethics, esp. the famous “Land Ethic” by Leopold or the “Deep Ecology” theory of Naess. What is the critical theory or claim that you would like to address, and the argument for it? What are the points pro and con that can be made in relation to the argument? What is your inclusive argument for or against the thesis you are discussing, about man’s ethical relation to nature? Do we have an ethical relation to nature – or is the basic ethical question essentially prudential, i.e. how should humans relate to the natural environment as a resource, so as to maximize and not harm human well-being?
