During the course of the past two years, the onset of CoVid and the subsequent restrictions have certain played havoc on your local and state economies. As many people earned less money, they were forced to curtain their spending. Furthermore, due to a fear of the virus, many people chose to shelter in place as much as possible rather than eat out at restaurants, visit tourist attractions, or stay in hotels. When you add this to the significant reduction of income taxes and sales taxes collected, many governments collect taxes on gasoline, hotel stays, and tourism. Even the budgets of school sites that rely on fund raising, special events and gate income from ball games were hit hard by Covid. Although the federal government has made some relief available, the future budgets of state and local governments are sure to be strained. For this scenario, we’re going to be facing this tightening budgets with the prospect that there will be a cut in the amount of money distributed to the school district by the state and thus, a cut in the per pupil allocation provided to the school by the school district. While we are on the brink returning to some sense of normalcy in the schools, the pandemic has made educators aware of the value of online and blended learning in meeting the needs of many students. We have witnessed the benefits that virtual learning activities can have in breaking down the walls of traditional classroom instruction. While the economic news is not spectacular, we have received some really good news that a $200,000 federal grant is available for those schools or districts that wish to improve their capacity to deliver online instruction. The district has appointed you to lead the grant proposal process. You are to prepare a plan and present this plan, along with the full budget to the school board.
