Larry Swayne, director of the Central Piedmont Small Business center presened on November 18th. He provided a wealth of insight, knowledge, and information on small business management. Regardless if your career pursuit is to be an entrepreneur, small business owner, or work for a corporation, his points were relevant in whatever career you are pursing. Students will attend the live event or watch the Webex recording and submit their summary of the presentation answering specific questions as outlined below. You will submit a written reflection paper answering the key questions by Tuesday, November 23, by 11:59 p.m. You will have an opportunity to earn up to 20 extra points by producing a well written summary of the presentation answering the following questions. Describe the topic of Mr. Swayne’s presentation. How does this topic connect to today’s business environment? Share two pieces of information that you learned in the workshop and why that information is important to a career in business or whatever field you arepursuing? How will you use the information from this presentation to influence your career or entrepreneurial pursuits? Mr. Swayne discussed his “lightbulb” moment. What has been your epithamy as related to what you want to do (again, it may be a job, career, your education, family, social endeavor, etc.)? Mr. Swayne talked about four “A” statements related to sentences I want you to finish: (1) A dream; Wouldn’t it be cool it ___________”, (2) A wish: I wish there was a place to _______________”, (3) A need: “I am missing______________________”, and (4) A want; “I would love it if __________________”. When you finish these statements, relate them to a career pursuit or filling a gap in an entrepreneurial venture or idea you have. He mentioned having a mentor in life. How important is it to have a mentor? What speaks to the “real you”? Remember: well written paper means: Providing a cover page On Microsoft Word or compatible format Using complete sentences and paragraphs Applying critical thinking NOT writing cryptic one sentence responses in bullet points Putting your name on your work Including headings for each section of your paper (headings are the questions).
