1) Processes of political regime types (. oligarchic rule, populism, authoritarianism, the return to democracy, etc.); 2) The politics of transformations in economic structures (. development by import- substitution, export-oriented economies, neo-liberalism; redistributive versus growth schemes; etc.); 3) Dynamics of State-society relations and evolution and behavior of interest groups and social movements; 4) Questions and problems related to cultural transformations, ethnicity, poverty and socio- economic inequality, relations between social classes, women issues in Latin America, etc. IMPORTANT NOTE: the time period under examination must be between 1980 and 2020. This essay should be a well-informed analysis paper, . it should not be based on preconceptions or unsubstantiated opinion. Also, stay away from descriptive style papers . just depicting a question/problem without analyzing it. As such, extensive research documents, entirely or mostly historical analyses, and opinion papers are not what we are looking for in this exercise. In that perspective, you should: 1) Indicate your papers study question/problem and goal; 2) Introduce your main line of argumentation or principal research hypotheses [NOTE: a hypothesis always contains a brief explanatory statement, . it is followed by a short segment beginning with because…, given that…, or since… to justify the hypotheses.]; 3) Underline the relevance of this problem . why should one be interested in this study?by basing yourself upon the existing literature and research; 4) Provide sufficient historical background; 5) Present data and evidence upon which you may effectively base your analysis; 6) Conduct the actual analysis, . test your argumentation or hypotheses; 7) Show the outcome of your analysis of this problem/question. 8) Conclude on what these findings mean for your cases.
