Type of assessment: Reflective Journal
Length: 3 x 600-word
You will observe one session of each lesson type conducted at music schools. Suitable opportunities for these classroom observations will be scheduled over the entire semester. Observations can last between 20 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the type of lesson observed. Lessons should include 1 of each of these:
– Principal Study Individual lessons
– Ensemble lessons
– Workshop activity
You are to write three essays.
1. The first essay Principal Study Individual lessonsrequires you to think through critically about the planning process of the 3 lessons you have observed. What are the distinctives of the 3 lesson types gathered from the classroom observations of each?
2. The second essay Ensemble lessonsrequires you to note down the observations you have made during the session i.e.: teachers approaches, student/s responses and the overall lesson delivery.
3. The third essay Workshop activity requires you to reflect on the whole process of the classroom observations, paying close attention to how it has enabled you to be more confident in your own teaching and the understanding of the various contemporary pedagogies learnt in term
