Near the end of the third scene of act four (Act 4, scene 3), Emilia and Desdemona have a conversation on the nature of women, sex and marriage. In a few sentences, explain the gist of Emilia’s argument in response to Desdemona’s belief that “there [isn’t] any such woman” who would cheat on her husband (act IV, scene III, line 94). The online pdf edition (from the Folger Shakespeare Library) provided It would be helpful to re-read the entire scene, but Emilia’s response goes from lines 95-115. After explaining Emilia’s general argument, explain if you think the events of the play support Emilia’s perspective over Desdemona’s. Or are both perspectives flawed? Use events from the play to support your position.
