Explain a “Selfie” to someone who has NO prior knowledge of it? The point of this is perhaps by being asked to explain something we all take for granted, it might help us to see the subject from a different, fresh, viewpoint.
Again, explain to the reader, in as clear a manner as possible, one facet of visual culture (many of which are pointed out in the PDF document). Again, explain it to us, the reader, as if we’ve never come across it before, as if we were members of an alien nation. The point here is that we re-look at (and re-investigate) and describe the simplest visual experiences to the reader. You may want to come up with your own ideas (the use, purpose and paradoxes of mirrors, say, or the recent phenomenon of the “Selfie”). Let me know if this helps. 🙂
Once again, choose an object or topic that is part of our visual culture (mirrors, eyeglasses, make-up, light bulbs, glass, photography, art museums, television, optics, telescopes, microscopes, magnifying glasses, body language, sign language or 3D glasses, etc). **Some students have opted to describe kitchen or cooking appliances, for example, but these aren’t necessarily exclusively visual. Keep the topic to seeing and visuality, exploring/ explaining a part of our visual culture.
