BLM vs. Blue Lives Matter – Issues of police use of force and race have been in the news in recent years, with high-profile incidents, such as George Floyd and even in Fort Worth, with Jacqueline Craig and Atatiana Jefferson. – These controversial incidents have added fuel to the rift between police and minority groups as we have seen with Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter. – Explain the BLM vs. Blue Lives Matter conflict from the perspective of the police and citizens using course material. – Specifically, explanations of racial profiling and use of force that we have discussed in class and the readings (e.g. dirty harry, asshole, etc.). – Draw from lecture, the text, our guest speaker Sgt. Demoine Clark, and at least one academic reference. – finally, think of some solutions on how to rebuild community trust using some real examples that some police departments and communities are doing, as well as explain the difficulties of rebuilding that trust.
