We will be watching the movie Cast Away and viewing it from a psychological perspective. We have two main focuses as we watch: motivation and intelligence/creative thinking.
After we watch the movie, write an essay that addresses the following points:
1. Describe Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Then, talk briefly about Abraham Maslow.
2. Explain how this theory is played out in the movie. How do you see the character working to meet the different priorities of needs? How does his motivation change?
3. Name at least five or more examples of creative thinking by Chuck while on the island. (There are lots!)
4. Any concluding observations or thoughts about these theories or the movie.
