Research Proposal Part 1

Using a Behavioral Intervention to Improve Performance of Women’s College Lacrosse Team

Background Information

The objective of this behavioral analysis was to enhance women’s production in lacrosse through ABAB design. In the study, 12 women lacrosse players between 18-22 years old, with four-to-10 years experience in the sport, practice passing, “naming passes,” meaning the player performing the pass says the name of the receiving target before the ball reaches them to improve cohesion.

Sessions occurred in the last 30 minutes of full practices and occurred three-to-five days per week.

Data was collected by the athletic trainer and a second observer. Collection occurred in the second half of the practice with session lastings 100 passes, or 10-20 minutes.

Next, the coaches told the team they would run five 65-yard sprints at the end of practice, but for every 20 passes named, the players had to run one less sprint.

At the end of the study 7/12 women thought ‘naming passing” practices should continue.

Participants

The study uses 12 women. It will be difficult to find that many people who can meet at one time, but I am confident that I can manage to include five participants. I would use three women as passers, but they are not similar to the lacrosse athletes in the study because they are college students. My fourth and fifth participants would be objective data collectors.

Behavior

Behavior will be measured to see how many drops the women have after 10-20 minutes of “name passing.” If any woman has a total of five drops before reaching 35 passes, they will run six 30-yard sprints.

Measurement

Behavior will be measured with the assistance of two data collectors observing the three women “name passing.” The average scored aimed for is 35 passes.

Design

ABAB design will be used like in the original study. I chose it it because I think an effective way to get behavior to improve is through the withdrawal of.

Things that need to be fixed above:
Background: needs more on methods, results and how the study will be extended.

Participants: needs to have appraise characteristics of the proposed participants and how similar and/or different from article.

Behavior : Section must include a thorough, observable and measurable definition of behavior, including at least one example and one non example.

Measurement: Needs a thorough method of measurement that works for the defined behavior and IOA procedures are correct for the measurement.

Design: Doesn’t need changes.

APA: Research proposal must be in APA format.

After those corrections and modifications, here is the instructions for part 2:

Assessment and Reinforcement Procedures: describe the baseline procedures. Also describe the general reinforcement procedures used. Will you use differential reinforcement procedures? If so what do they look like?

Implementation of Reinforcement Contingency: Describe exactly how the contingency will be implemented such that a person could read your report and implement procedures correctly.
