The purpose of this assignment is to provide you the interesting and demanding opportunity to research and prepare a case study. You get to choose your subject, prepare a case history, develop a DSM 5 diagnosis and then create a treatment plan based on your diagnosis.
Who do you choose for the case study? Select any figure; historical or fictional, a character from literature or the movies or a current person in the news who is of interest to you and about whom vital information is available. Please use the excellent library guide created by Molly Matheson for us to gather information, do your research and format in the APA style.
What do you write? Provide a detailed description of the person as if you were a therapist who had conducted an interview and assessed the individual. Then develop a comprehensive, yet concise history of your “client” which should be no more than 2-3 pages. The second aspect of the assignment is to develop a diagnosis of this person and include all supportive information and an in-depth analysis of how you reached your decisions for all 5 axis from the DSM 5. Finally, use your knowledge and research to prepare an effective, well – documented, treatment plan for the therapeutic work you might do with this client. Be creative, informative and interesting. Allow your knowledge and imagination to come together in a thoughtful and academic manner. You should adopt a professional voice as if the case study was about a real client you know.
How do you write it? You will submit an 6-8 page paper that is typewritten, grammatically correct and utilizes the information that you are learning in this class. You must use 5 sources other than the textbook and cite references utilizing APA format. You must include the DSM 5 as one of your references accurately using the diagnostic codes and criteria listed in the manual. Source material for biographical information for your subject should be in addition to your 5 research sources and does not count as one of your five references.
When is it due? You will turn the paper in using the link in CANVAS. Please note, I do not accept late papers. You may turn it in early if you would like, however. I will be happy to go over ideas with you.
