Analytical Paper 3 – Analyze the classical military theories studied, assess level of coherence of the Theory of War in five critical areas for all five domains of war/conflict we have studied, and re-engage with other seven aspects to form an overall assessment of the status of the Theory of War.
This synthetic assignment is a summative assignment requiring the student to analyze the classical military theories studied in the course from all five domains of war/conflict – land, sea, air, space, and cyber – and assess the level of coherence of the Theory of War in five specific areas, re-engage with other seven aspects addressed in the two research papers, and present an overall assessment of the coherence of the existing Theory of War as addressed in the course. You must support your assessments by references to the course readings to demonstrate mastery of them.
The five fundamental aspects of the Theory of War to be addressed in all five domains of war/conflict in this paper are:
Principles of War – enduring truths about war broadly applicable
Deception – importance and how
Intelligence – importance and who
Domain Power – Command of Domain and Domain Superiority
Human Dimension – impacts of people and culture
In addition, you will provide your summarized thoughts from Analytical Paper 1 and Analytical Paper 2, with any relevant revisions you chose to include. You will conclude by providing an overall assessment of the existing level of coherence of the Theory of War as expressed by the theorists and domains we studied.
