This week, I would like to hear your thoughts about the different roles in the curriculum development and implementation process and how that compares to your personal/professional experiences with curriculum reform. First, describe your experience with curriculum reform and implementation. Have you attended professional development trainings to prepare for a new curriculum? Have you participated on committees that made decisions about the adoption of a new curriculum? Have you been responsible for selecting a new curriculum? In your experience, what roles have teachers, parents, or students played in this process? If your experience with curriculum development or implementation is limited, this is okay. You will become experienced soon enough! Second, reflect on the readings in weeks 6 – 7. Was there anything surprising to you in the readings from weeks 6 – 7? Anything new or different from your experience or expectation? Comment on whether or not there were any stakeholders in the curriculum development or implementation process that surprised you, and why. Also, talk briefly about any differences between what you read and what you learned/are learning in your interview with a school leader (if completed). For instance, what opportunities or roles exist for teachers to be involved in the curriculum development process at your school or district (Upper Darby School District)? Third, discuss the role you could take in the curriculum development (or change) process, and how you would envision positioning yourself in your school or district to become more involved in that process. Do you envision yourself as a department chair or district-level administrator? Would you imagine forming or participating in a teacher collaborative to have a voice in decision-making about curriculum and instruction?Show more
