According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program, exemplary professional practice is the true essence of a Magnet Organization. In a true professional practice environment, the nurse can apply all aspects of their role to patients, families, communities, and the interdisciplinary team. Exact definitions of these roles are often left to the individual organizations to develop.
In this module we will investigate how the creation of an exemplary professional practice framework for nursing can lead to improved patient outcomes and better nurse job satisfaction.
Exemplary Professional Practice:
Objectives: At the end of this class session you will be able to:
1. Develop a personal understanding of exemplary professional practice.
2. Identify the roles of the nurse, patient, interdisciplinary team and organization in supporting exemplary professional practice.
3. Describe how a work setting you are familiar with is implementing these ideas.
