Write a response to Lefteri’s Beekeeper of Aleppo, putting the novel in conversation with one of the theoretical readings, as well as one other artifact (music, film, painting, etc.) that we have studied in this section of the course. This assignment will allow considerable freedom in terms of how you’d like to approach the prompt, but the assignment should not be thought of as a simple review of the readings, nor as a synopsis of course content. Instead try to discover thematic elements that seize your attention and also speak across the texts and artifacts. For example, one could explore the notion of “repetition compulsion” from the theoretical readings and use this idea to examine the way memory—even painful memory—is depicted within the novel.
