In the current US (and other international) systems, it seems impossible to take personal and religious values out of policy making. Some of you believe you should always “help or love thy neighbor” and as such you volunteer and donate your time and resources accordingly. For some of your personal and/or religious beliefs guide when you feel life is defined and whether or not abortion should or should not be legal.

How does religion and personal values play a role in social welfare policies and decision-making?
Current examples from local or national officials and recent laws or recommendations that stem from these beliefs.
Your perspective on whether or not this is appropriate given the constitutional ideals behind the separation between church and state.
