An important tool for public health practitioners to influence public opinion is the OpEd, a persuasive and informative opinion piece that is published in newspapers. Create an OpEd on the issue of Minor Consent. Take a position, either for or against the policy of allowing minors to seek advice, testing, treatment for sexually transmitted infections, prescription contraceptives, and pregnancy testing without their parents knowing about it. Express your opinion in a persuasive way and provide data and information to support your view. Your audience is elected officials who are considering passing a law that would allow this to occur but there are a number of influential individuals and groups that oppose the proposed law and are pressuring the officials to vote against it.
