**There are 2 Parts to this Assignment**Each Part is Separate*** Reading and Research Writing: Discussion Board Post PART 1: Use at least 350 words for this part Wk 6: Short Fiction Introduction Read the following short stories assigned to you this week: – Poe, “The Cask of Amontillado” p. 81 – Faulkner, “A Rose for Emily” p. 295 – O’Connor, “A Good Man is Hard to Find” p. 356 Discussion Prompt Pick two of the assigned stories and reflect on the following: – What “warning” do your texts offer the reader? – What makes the stories that you selected scary or disturbing? Try to think beyond the obvious here. What common fear do the authors engage (e.g., claustrophobia, fear of the dark, etc.)? What techniques, descriptions, or omissions are most unsettling? – Pay attention to the way that the stories are delivered. Who is telling the story (the narrator)? Does the narrator have their own purpose for telling the story? Be sure to distinguish the narrator from the author. Instructions: – The initial post should be substantive. – Brief supporting quotations are always required, along with MLA or APA parenthetical citations.
