Based on the research questions given below, you’ll formulate and test hypotheses using data from the Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey (HPS). You’ll submit a document resembling a very short sociological study (around 3-5 pages, including tables and charts). This document will describe the project’s research question and hypotheses, data and analyses, and the results.
Research Questions
California’s first shelter-in-place order began in mid-March 2020, and unemployment rapidly increased in the following weeks. The initial peak for COVID-19 positive cases was in June 2020. How did hardship increase during that time?
Did employment/income losses become more common among Californian adults from April to June, 2020?
Did food sufficiency become less common among Californian adults from April to June, 2020?
Data
The data come from the Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey (HPS). To assess change over time, you’ll analyze data from samples collected in April and June 2020. Use excel or Jamovi for the data.
