Please label each paragraph’s response 1, response 2, and 3. Take their topic and expand it further into three separate paragraphs of 90 words each if possible using the resource below: Response 1: Shantell Referring to the text, an example of sociological imagination that I can relate to is about education. My life was shaped by a large-scale force of attending college to get a degree to have a successful life. So, I applied to college in hopes of completing school and having a successful life and career. Knowing what I know now, there are many opportunities to have a successful life and career that isn’t necessarily tied to having a degree. Of course, there are specialized careers that requires higher education. However, there are entrepreneurial opportunities, trade schools, gaming, coding, investing, running a YouTube channel, and even becoming a social media influencer. With the evolution of society norms, the enhancement of technology, and exploration of virtual reality, I wonder if college will eventually become taboo. I can use social imagination to be more aware in my decisions. Putting my actions into perspective, analyzing if my decisions are influenced by a larger force. Response 2: Nate Sociological Imagination is defined as the ability to look at familiar routines from an entirely new perspective. This gives us a better understanding of circumstances that surround us daily instead of passively living with them every day. Sociological Imagination also helps us in our decision making skills. For example, when buying clothes we may ask ourselves why do I need these pants or why do I need this shirt? Instead focusing on just the “why” we look further into that question. Could it be for an event we have to go to or do we need it to go to the gym? There are a lot of people in the world; everyone has a different routine and a different reason for why they do what they do. It is simply our job to use sociological imagination to put ourselves in other peoples shoes in order to understand their why. I have read the syllabus and understand the course layout and look forward to working with everyone. Response 3: Eric Social norms are attitudes and behaviors of people in a certain group. It is what people accept and consider normal. Waiting your turn in line at a coffee shop, using manners and showing empathy are normal behaviors that help groups of people coexist peacefully. As I traveled in the Army I was exposed to different cultural norms. An example would be the acceptance of sex from Europe to the US. In Europe sex is social accepted and openly talked about. Prostitution is legal and not looked down upon. In the US sex and prostitution it’s the opposite except in very small areas, i.e. Los Vegas. Something that you could consider norm breaking behavior here in the US would be public crossdressing where in most areas simple public display of affection is looked down upon.
