For this activity,I′d like you to brainstorm and think of some sort of sociological research project that you could conduct. Your research project will need to involve the study of social groups in some way. While it′s perfectly fine to indicate that you would survey,interview,or otherwise study individual people,the topic of your research must be on a social grouping of some sort. So,you might focus on something like ″how zero-tolerance policies for late or missing assignments affect college students″ rather than ″how x instructor′s course policies affected my friend.″ There′s nothing that′s necessarily wrong with including your friends in a study (it can be problematic,depending on the context) but you definitely don′t want to just focus on one person for a sociological study. The study you come up with can be on any topic you want and it doesn′t have to be ″serious″ scientific research that you′re planning to publish. See my example studies listed below for some idea of what I′m looking for. You can also read the section titled ″Aggregates,Not Individuals″ on PDF page 13 of the assigned reading. Once you have come up with an idea for a study,please respond to the following prompts: Describe your study. Be sure to clearly specify what social groups are involved and what you are studying/trying to learn. Describe what you think will be the best way to collect data for your study. Explain why you think that approach is appropriate. We haven′t gotten into specific data collection methods yet but I assume you have a rough understanding of the differences between interviews,surveys,observations,and so on. Don′t do any outside research or stress about showing a perfect understanding. I just want you to start thinking about this. Think about your proposed study in terms of variables and attributes. Describe two variables that you could you to measure ideas associated with your study. Choose one of those variables and describe a set of attributes that would be appropriate for it. Determine whether the variables you described for requirement 3 are independent or dependent. Please explain how you came to that conclusion for each.
