2) It was during the Shang and Zhou Dynasties that many of Chinas basic cultural characteristics were established. What were these aspects of Chinese culture and what was their significance? Confucianism became the official creed of China – – who was Confucius and what were the main points of his ideology? How did the role of women change during Chinas development? What is Daoism? Who were the Legalists? What significant changes (political, legal, social or other) occurred as Chinese leaders established an Empire? What might be the importance of Confucian civil-service style of government for China?
3) Between approximately 200 B.C.E. and 200 C.E., both Rome and China created empires. Consider how these empires were established, how they were ruled and the effect of empire on the rulers and the ruled.
The paper is based on your critical analysis of Lessons, assigned readings and videos. Specifically, you will be writing answers based on Section V, on China and Rome. In your paper you will be comparing (noting similarities and differences) the development of Chinese and Roman civilizations. Using the FIRST THREE QUESTIONS on the preceding page as your guide describe the major economic, social, intellectual, legal and political developments of these two societies, and explain why you chose those points as being the most significant.
Your answers should be in your own words, based on your own understanding of the Lessons, readings and videos, and your statements should be explained as fully as possible.
