This assignment will culminate in students submitting individual papers detailing their findings related a Native-led organization. This paper has two sections. In the first section, students should describe the organization, how it began, the issue that it addresses, and the events and/or work that the organization does. The second section should address ways that people can support the work of the organization or the movement that they are involved in. In this section, students should also reflect on their own relationship to the aims of the organization. In other words, why is it of personal interest to you? Part 1 (2 pages): Describe the basics of the organization, the who, what, where, when, and why? Explain why this organization is addressing an urgent issue. Cite at least one reading from the course from the first section (key words) or the second section (#NoDAPL). Part 2 (2-3 pages): What are the action items that the organization is calling for? What can we do to support their cause? How does this connect to theories or ideas about solidarity? If not, why? What does Haunani-Kay Trask say about coalition in her article “Coalitions Between Natives and Non-Natives” and how is this connected to work of this organization. Explain why the work of this organization is important to you. What is your relationship to the issue that the organization addresses? How do you connect to Dr. Trask’s argument as you think about the work of the organization?
