Tell your reader what the book is about by getting to the heart of the matter. In order to do this, you must first become utterly familiar with the book yourself. Read through it once and jot down things that you think are important or essential. Also, jot down things that strike you as particularly interesting and revealing, things that make you think or raise questions.
c) As you report on the book, telling your reader about it, you should also feel free to offer your thoughts and reflections on it. Is there something about Days life or thinking that you find particularly striking? If so, what? And if so, why? For instance, how does the book make you reflect on your own life, or on modern culture and its values? What sort of light does the book shed on what it means to be a Christian or a Catholic or even just a human being? What does it tell you about the meaning of life? How does Days approach to life differ from the average person you know or yourself? Does everybody have to do what Day did in order faithfully to follow Christ? Why or why not? Etc.
d) In short, the book report shouldnt just be a slavish repetition of what the book says, but should also contain a reflection as to why this book matters or why Days life matters, etc. In other words, dont just report (although do that), but also try to show why the book and Days life might be worth the effort it takes to know about it through this book.
