Write a research paper on special populations in the correctional system. Special populations are anyone who does not fit into the category of who the correctional system was originally designed for. The original punishment system in the U.S. was designed for white, able-bodied, heterosexual, young men.
Our special populations are anyone who does not fall into that category; so men of color, women as a whole, and specifically women of color, the elderly, LGBTQIA+ people, people with mental illness, and people with disabilities.
For our research paper, you are going to explore the experiences of a special population in one segment of our punishment system. For example, you want to know more about the elderly in prison, so you find eight or so peer-reviewed journal articles on older people in prisons. You may be interested in learning more about the experiences of American Indian and Alaskan Native women in jails, so you find eight or so peer-reviewed journal articles on AIAN women in jails.
