Define the primary components of criminal justice and their primary responsibilities (Police, Courts, and Corrections; use a separate paragraph for each component ; you can look in chapter 4 for policing, chapter 7 four courts, and chapter 10 and 11 for corrections. Pages Two & Three – Identify problems that keep the system from functioning effectively and efficiently.( Use a separate paragraph for each of the following problems-Resources such as budgets an staffing, training, government corruption , lack of public trust, delays in crime lab results; also look in chapter six for additional information about policing issues. Page Four – Explain the function and procedure of the federal Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.(Chapter 2) Pages Five & Six – Compare and Contrast present day criminal justice traditions and practices with their historical precedents and beginnings. ( Have a separate paragraph for policing courts and corrections: Policing: pages 112 -113 Courts: pages 208 -210 Corrections: 338-339 also, included info about changes in philosophies through the years (mainly lecture notes) and how sentencing practices have impacted prison numbers. Pages Seven & Eight – Define and evaluate the present day value of the Peelian Principles. (mainly start with who developed the principles, when, where, and their meaning; then apply to principle today′s police operations. Pages Nine & Ten – List the procedures an offender undergoes in his/her progression through the system.( For an overview review to pages 12-14; be sure to use paragraphs to describe each of these procedures.) Page Eleven – list and Identify courtroom procedures .(Pages 251-261; be sure to include motions and sentencing.)
