Research how your jurisdiction defines and enacts the fire prevention code for the community and your department. Provide the background of how and why the fire prevention code was proposed. Compile the information as to why this was developed and adopted. Be sure to include information on the following topics.
Determine what type of law it is, and justify your decision.
Identify whether your local code aligns with state and federal codes.
Examine the codes for commercial and industrial facilities in your area. Do these reflect new technology for fire prevention and protection, or are they outdated?
Are there any additional components that are unique to your department?
If you are not currently employed in the fire service, choose a department near you that has history and fire code information posted online.
