As you reflect back on the things you have learned about the progression of American History from reconstruction to the present day, what do you think was one of the most important political, social, economic, or cultural developments during this long time period?
Explain how and why this development emerged, how it changed (or didn’t change) over time, and how it shaped the history of the world. Please organize your essay chronologically, but with a clear thesis statement and arguments supported with evidence from specific facts and concepts that you learned in this course.
Q’s Clarifications
Your essay should be at least four paragraphs long – try to keep it to one page as we have done on past writing assignments but you can certainly go over that if you need to without penalty- perhaps a page and half.
The word DEVELOPMENT could mean a variety of things and leaves you wide open to decide what you would like to write about. First, choose one of the categories: Political (Government) Social (emphasizes social structures and the interaction of different groups in society rather than affairs of state) Economic (trade & money- even how trade helped bring about disease would be something interesting) or Cultural (ways of living built up by a group of people). Choose something that you think was important in one of these categories that we have learned about this semester and justify its importance! Look through your notebooks to the beginning of this semester to this present week. If you like, send me the topic that you have decided upon and I will make suggestions.
