• Nurse practitioners provide medical and nursing care for patients with complex acute or chronic health conditions and have contributed to patient care by using an expanded scope of practice. In your EBP course, you have examined your NP role in facilitating evidenced based practice. Now consider, that upon graduation you will engage in the process that has enabled registered nurses to expand the boundaries between medicine and nursing through EBP to affect patient outcomes. Summarize your perception of the expansion of the scope of NP practice that has been or needs to be defined to enable you to practice to the full extent of your NYS authority as an NP (e.g. NPs presently cannot admit patients in their own name in the acute care setting, NPs are primary care providers in ambulatory settings). Synthesize the evidence and provide the argument for utilizing NPs (in your chosen future clinical area) to improve the Triple Aim.
