According to Katherine Boo’s account (Behind the Beautiful Forevers), why did slum-dwellers prefer private (individual and familial) attempts to better their socially, spatially, and economically precarious situation? Why didn’t the community pursue a collective political response (e.g. grassroots protests, organized political resistance, social movements, etc.). Put simply, why was there no revolt or revolution in Annawadi?
