To identify such problems/needs, browse the web for current developments in your field (e.g. search with a keyword, or look into your school library pages). 2) Write your Problem Statement When working on on part 1, consider the following: a) Describe the situation Write about the background of your research topic (everything that you think your reader needs to know about the topic) focusing on answering the following question: What is happening (i.e., situation) around your topic? What are the issues within the topic/situation that seem to be topical (have been attracting attention of other people recently)? b) Define the problem Write about the problem or need or issue your addressing focusing on answering the following question: What are the issues within the topic that attracted your attention specifically? Why is it important/necessary to address/investigate the issues that caught your attention?
