This task related to Order #375106 and #376064 and #377548 For Task 2 and Task 3, you will base your work on an interview with a learner of an additional language. This person will be someone that you know or are aquainted with. They must be 18 years or older. You are not able to interview a person younger than this for this class activity. This is based on the advice from the University Ethics department. For this first part, Task 2A, you need to write around 400 words in which you: Introduce your chosen participant (or if you haven’t yet identified a specific person, the kind of person/additional language learner that you are interested in (e.g. I would like to explore the views and experiences of a beginning learner of Arabic to explore their learning of pronunciation of this language). Explain what specific issues related to their language learning are of interest to you (e.g. I’m interested in exploring the kinds of challenges experienced by a beginning adult learner of Arabic in being able to hear the differences between key sounds in Arabic and similar sounds in English. I’m also interested to observe how they might produce these novel sounds in Arabic). Demonstrate that your issue is based on relevant research (e.g. being able to perceive sounds in an additional language is a skill that is often overlooked…etc.).
