Juvenile Justice System
For this paper, you will need to explore the competing ideas of nature versus nurture. What causes
delinquency and how can this be mitigated? Some may argue that delinquency is hereditary and that to
solve the problem extreme solutions should be explored (think eugenics). Others would argue that
delinquency is taught, whether by the family, society, or a combination of both.
In your paper, explore the changing views over time and pros and cons of the various beliefs that have
been presented leading to where we are now. Then take the paper into contemporary beliefs and
approaches. What is fueling these ideas? Are our current methods showing success? What can be done
to improve outcomes and reduce delinquency?
