Chapter 8: One-Act Play Project Discussion
For this assignment, you will be creating a one-act play about the elements of student culture in a typical high school. Use 4-5 characters in your play to show us some of the norms and behaviors that are common among students in a high school. Try to include examples of ways in which student culture clashes with the expectations of teachers, parents, and school administrators. (20 points)
Here are some questions and factors to consider when writing your one-act play:
Is it possible for a student to learn the moral component (responsible citizenship, respect, cooperation, etc.) and pass through the school system without acquiring the cognitive skills that are essential? What is the relationship between the climate of academic expectations for student achievement and achievement outcomes? What does an effective and an ineffective school look like in terms of this climate of expectations?
Your one-act play should be about 3-4 pages when you are finished. Be sure that you have included at least 4-5 characters and be sure that you have addressed the required elements of the assignment in your play. Be creative and have fun with it-use humor and emotion in your play so that we become very interested in the story you’re trying to tell us. After you have posted your play, read your classmates’ plays and post your professional comments to at least four of them
