Discuss the principle of conflict resolution as dramatized in the film the Monty Python and the Holy Grail (movie available currently on Netflix, you may also use what you can find on the internet)
Choose a single scene or a series of scenes where two characters are experiencing a single conflict and analyze the transaction using the principles of conflict management. Consider addressing the following questions/guidelines within the structure of your paper (those appropriate):
1. What are the goals of the two characters in the interaction? (What do the characters want? Are their goals at cross-purposes?)
2. Are there any apparent verbal misunderstandings between the two characters? If so, identify the cause of the misunderstanding.
3. Identify whether you think each character is assertive, aggressive, or nonassertive in this interaction. What affect does this level of assertiveness/aggressiveness have on the interaction?
4. Analyze the nonverbal communication. How does the nonverbal communication hurt or help in escalating and/or resolving the conflict?
5. What relevance does gender play in this conflict between the characters?
6. If applicable to the conflict chosen, in what ways does the transaction follow John Deweys stages of conflict management?
7. Note any specific examples of negative conflict management strategies (i.e., avoidance, non-negotiation, gunnysacking, defensiveness, face-attacking, verbal aggressiveness).
8. Identify any specific examples of positive conflict management strategies (fighting actively, supportiveness, face-enhancing, argumentativeness).
9. Does the conflict resolve positively or negatively for the participants? Which character is most responsible for bringing closure to the conflict? How does the resolution impact their ongoing relationship?
