Your task is to observe in an early childhood classroom environment for a minimum of one hour and take objective notes on what you see using the Antibes Checklist. You are not there to evaluate or judge the environment.
You are there to look for elements of an anti-bias classroom and to reflect on your own biases and attitudes, and how this may affect your own teaching style and practices.
Write a reflective essay about this observation: what were the strengths related to diversity; what were the areas for growth related to diversity; how were the four goals of antibias education reflected (not reflected) in the classroom; did the classroom seem to be with or without biases; did you discover any of your own biases while doing this exercise; what suggestions do you have for the teacher(s) to make it a more inclusive setting for all the children present; what lingering questions do you have about preparing an anti-bias classroom environment?
