The purpose of this assignment is to develop students’ research skills by requiring them to select a topic from their current course, find relevant studies with the assistance of a librarian, and critically evaluate each study. This assignment will enhance students’ ability to conduct literature reviews, assess the quality of research, and understand the relevance of studies to their chosen topic.
Assignment Instructions:
Select a Topic:
Students will begin by choosing a topic from their current course that interests them or is particularly relevant to their field of study. This topic will be the focus of their research.
Find Studies:
With the assistance of a librarian, students will locate at least five studies related to their chosen topic. The librarian will guide them in using databases, academic journals, and other scholarly resources to find high-quality research studies. Also, how was the librarian able to help.
Study Selection and Relevance:
For each of the five studies, students will write a brief explanation (1 paragraphs) describing why they selected the study and how it is relevant to their topic. This helps to justify their choices and demonstrate the study’s significance. The articles must be peer reviewed and no older than five years.
Summarize Results:
Students will summarize the key findings of each study in their own words. This summary should focus on the main results that are pertinent to their topic, helping to distill the essential information from each study.
Evaluate Limitations:
Students will identify and discuss the limitations of each study. This could include aspects like sample size, methodology, potential biases, and any other relevant factors. They will also suggest additional information or modifications that could strengthen the study or address its limitations.
Suggest additional information or modifications that could strengthen the study or address its limitations.
Type of Study:
For each study, students will state the type of study (e.g., randomized controlled trial, cohort study, case study, qualitative study, etc.). This classification helps to understand the study’s design and methodology.
Compile Your Findings:
Organize your assignment into a cohesive document with the following sections:
Introduction: Briefly introduce your chosen topic and the purpose of the assignment.
Study Selection and Relevance: Provide your explanations for each study.
Summarize Results: Summarize the key findings for each study.
Evaluate Limitations: Discuss the limitations and suggest improvements.
Type of Study: Indicate the type of study for each one.
Conclusion: Summarize your overall findings and reflections on the studies reviewed.
