Preparation of Research Proposal Students have to prepare and submit a Research Proposal of no more than 1500 – 2000 words (references are excluded). For the submission of the research proposal, students need to use the“Form A: Research Proposal Cover Page” (Appendix 1).Information about submission deadlines is available in this handbook and on Moodle.
Students should submit their Research Proposal online via Moodle. Before assessment, all Research Proposals will be reviewed by the Research Project (RP) Committee inorder to ensure that the proposed project falls under the fields of public health and/or primary care. Any Research Proposals that do not meet the criteria will be sent to students for revision.
Structure of Research ProposalThe Research Proposal must have the following structure, ideally following JAMA guidelines:• TitleTitle should be short, self-explanatory and reflect the content of the written report. Proposed length: <20words.• AbstractThe abstract can be in narrative form or subdivided in sections but should include information onbackgrounds, aims, methods, and expected results of the study. Proposed length: <250 words.• Introduction including Literature reviewThe purpose of the introduction is to familiarize the readers with what the project is all about.
It shouldinclude a review of the relevant literature by describing the research methodology and main findings of the studies the students are reviewing and to present the most relevant and updated scientific information on this topic.
It should also state clearly the research question and aims of the study and explain very briefly the rational and importance of doing this specific study. Proposed length: approximately 350 words.•
Research Methodology Students should describe thoroughly the methodology used to undertake the project.
Students should describe the methods of data collection, the procedure for the recruitment of participants, sampling, research tools (should be attached) and ethical considerations. The selection of research methods should be justified . Proposed length: approximately 500 words, or as appropriate.•
Expected Results and Health Impacts:Students should describe in a quantitative manner the expected results and their expected impact at the clinical and/or public health level.
