Both Fitzgeralds Winter Dreams and Faulkners Barn Burning focus on the economic discrepancies of the early 20th century. As I mentioned in Fitzgeralds introduction, while we see inequalities in both stories, Fitzgerald tends to present them to us from the settings of the rich, in particular the high society of the East Coast, while Faulkner focuses on the environment of the poor, specifically rural Mississippi. Their characters often act and react based on these inequalities in society.
Choosing one character from each story, analyze how each makes choices in life based upon his (or her, if you choose Judy) economic situation. The difficult part of this topic is tying the two characters together in a meaningful way, so I will give you one example (that you are free to use if you wish) to show you what I mean. If I chose Dexter and Abner, I might compare how they both treat others around them based upon their social standing. How they treat others is definitely a choice they make. Then I would need to choose one or two other aspects to compare for these same characters.
