Building off the skills honed during the blog post assignment, students will be required to draft an opinion article between 750-1,200 words on any of the topics covered in the course that takes a deeper dive in advocating for gender equality/the rights of women, girls and/or members of the LGBTQI+ community around the world.
The piece should well-researched and cited, using hyperlinks (rather than footnotes or endnotes), and follow a format similar to the blog post. However, it should flesh out argumentation and analysis, utilize data points, and provide examples and comparisons as appropriate. The topic of the op-ed must be different than that covered in the blog post. As in the previous assignment, students must create a social media toolkit with at least three Tweets, and again are encouraged to use creative hashtags, graphics, and other tools to engage readers and emphasize the arguments articulated in the op-ed. Best practices of op-ed writing and social media toolkits are linked in the readings.
