This teaching plan is to help you focus and understand a specific disease process to be able to teach that
disease process to a newly diagnosed patient. When a nurse can teach a disease process to a patient, he or she
has a good understanding of the disease.
You will be given your choice of a disease to teach from the ones listed below. This will be an out of class
project. It can be completed in the form of a narrative paper, a pamphlet, a power point presentation, or even
a dialogue between nurse and patient. The goal is to demonstrate that you, as a nurse, know and understand
the disease process well enough to teach it to the patient. Please see the rubric for specific requirements.
