For this discussion, you are going to compare a work of art from Chapter 13 with a work of art completed in a very different part of the world. You have control over the objects you compare. Follow these steps as you write your initial post. 1) Select an object from Chapter 13 that you find particularly interesting. Note when it was made. 2) Browse through the relevant chapters in your textbook to find an object made at approximately the same time in a European or Asian culture. The object you select should be the same type as the object from Chapter 13. For example, if the object from Chapter 13 is a relief sculpture, select a relief sculpture from European or Asian culture. The materials from which they are made do not have to be the same, only the type of works. 3) In your initial post, identify both objects with titles, figure #s and dates. Discuss the similarities and differences of subject, form, interpretation, and context. The comparison does not have to be comprehensive. Focus on the most compelling aspects of the works. Note that I do not want you to make judgments about which work or which culture is superior. 4) To finish your initial post, think about whether there are any larger lessons to be learned from this comparison about humans making art.Show more
