Abstract: Covid-19’s Effect on Commodities
Covid-19’s effect on the commodities industry has been unprecedented, and still at the mercy of the pandemic. Oil and metal prices are not expected to rise until travel continues or government intervention. Covid’s shock to the commodities industry has led to changes in fiscal policy and stimulus packages from the U.S. Government. With a lower demand for oil, oil and metal prices are not expected to return to pre-pandemic prices until after 2021- the energy sector being affected more than others. Agriculture prices, however, have, and are expected to remain, fairly stable following the food shortage brought on by Covid-19. Agriculture prices are expected to rise this year, after a three percent rise in prices in the year 2020. Covid-19 has rocked the commodities industry, leading to extraordinary changes in fiscal policy, prices, and the overall market.
