Compose the first part of your lesson plan according to your reading in Creative Bible Teaching and these instructions. Write this assignment out in full sentences. Be careful to answer each question asked or supply each section called for in these instructions. 3 sources are required for the Observations section. Be sure that you cite these sources appropriately in Turabian style format. Use a title page for this assignment that gives the Assignment Title, your Name, the Course Name, the Semester, and the biblical passage on which your lesson is based. 1. Quote the Bible passage on which you base your lesson. 2. Intended audience. In one paragraph, state in detail the audience for whom you will present the lesson. Describe the audience in terms of age, culture, economic status, etc. 3. Observations. Read the passage over several times. Make observational notes of the passages Historical/cultural Setting, Context (within the larger chapter or book) Structure (organization of the thought/rhetoric) Record Relevant questions as you read the text. Present your findings on these observations or questions as part of your lesson plan: Select some observations or questions you have made for each of the three areas (historical, context, structure); Check at least 3 commentaries or larger dictionaries to provide background information on your observations or questions (note that Internet sources are not allowed for this assignment). Present these observations/questions and your findings as the first section of your written assignment. 4. The Exegetical Idea. Identify and clearly state the exegetical idea, the main idea of the passage that the biblical writer makes. What did God say in this passage? 5. The Teaching Idea. Clearly state the one idea that you want your students to learn. See Richards, CBT, for a definition of the Teaching Idea and how it is different from the Exegetical Idea.
