You are working with a researcher investigating whether taller men are at greater risk for prostate cancer than shorter men. To address this hypothesis, the researcher selected a sample of men from her state cancer registry who lived in a certain neighborhood and were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009. She then randomly selected men from the same neighborhood as the cases who had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer (the controls).
